Logging Your Volunteer Hours

You can use your Connect site to log all of your volunteer hours. Hours on the site fall into two categories:

  • Hours that are associated with need responses you've made on the site
  • Hours that are not associated with need responses you've made on the side ("individual hours")

Logging Hours for a Posted Need

To log hours for a need posted in Get Connected:

  1. Log into Get Connected.
  2. From your profile dropdown, click Track Hours to open the Track Hours page.

    Note: Alternatively, you can click the Volunteer Hours area of your dashboard, located just below the Welcome message.

  3. Click the Add Hours button, located under the Volunteer Hours heading.


  4. Click Yes under the Hour Type heading.

    Note: (By clicking Yes, you indicate that the hours you're posting are related to a previous need response in Get Connected. For instructions on logging hours not related to a need response, click here.)

  5. Select a need from the Need dropdown.

    Note: The posting agency and the need date appear once you've selected the need. If you've responded to multiple needs with the same title, this additional information should be helpful.

  6. Enter the hour details (Date Worked, Hours Worked, and Miles Traveled, as applicable) and description (optional).

    Note: If the agency manager entered a duration for this need, the Hours Worked field will populate automatically. You can override the displayed number as needed.

  7. Click Submit Hour Entry.

Note: Depending on the site's settings, you may need to review your entries before verifying the submission. Also depending on the site's settings, your hours may or may not need to be approved before showing up on your volunteer résumé.

Logging Individual Volunteer Hours

"Individual hours" are hours that are not associated with a need response in Get Connected. Some Get Connected sites require that volunteer hours be related to a need response, but some sites allow posting of "individual hours." If your site allows this, follow the instructions below to log your hours.

  1. Log into Get Connected.
  2. From your profile dropdown, click Track Hours to open the Track Hours page.

    Note: Alternatively, you can click the Volunteer Hours area of your dashboard, located just below the Welcome message.

  3. Click the Add Hours button, located under the Volunteer Hours heading.
  4. Click No under the Hour Type heading.

    Note: (By clicking No, you indicate that the hours you're posting are not related to a previous need response in Get Connected. For instructions on logging hours related to a need response, click here.)

  5. Complete the fields under the Individual Details and Description headings.
  6. Click Submit Hour Entry.

A record of these hours is displayed on both your volunteer hours record and your volunteer résumé. In addition, your volunteer résumé will display the name of the task, the date, the hours volunteered, and the number of miles traveled.

Editing Your Hours

You can edit your volunteer hours as long as they have not yet been approved by an agency manager. Both traditional and individual hours can be edited by the volunteer who submitted them.

To edit your hours in Get Connected:

  1. Log into Get Connected.
  2. From your profile dropdown, click Track Hours to open the Track Hours page.

    Note: Alternatively, you can click the Volunteer Hours area of your dashboard, located just below the Welcome message.

    The Track Hours page displays your previously submitted hours.
  3. Click the pencil icon to edit hours. Note that the approved hours do not have a pencil icon and cannot be edited.
  4. Make your changes.
  5. Click Update Hour Entry.
