1.0 to 2.0: What Happens to Need (Opportunity) Categories?

This article is for agency managers and site administrators who previously used Get Connected 1.0 and are now using the current version.

In Get Connected 1.0, agency managers can select categories for each posted need. They can do the same in the current version, but there are a couple of differences:

  • Need categories are now called interests.
  • Managers can now select from a limited list of interests.

Get Connected 1.0 offered a long list of very specific need categories. The interests in the current version are fewer and more general. When platforms move from 1.0 to the latest version, Get Connected assigns some interests based on each need's original categories. For example, a need categorized as "Reading/Literacy" and "Tutoring" will be assigned the "Education" interest now.

Purpose of this Article

This article explains what happens to the need categories when a Get Connected platform moves from version 1.0 to the latest version. One of two things happen:

  • Interests are assigned to needs based on what categories were chosen in Get Connected 1.0. Click here to see which interests correspond to each category.
  • If no interests "match" a selected category, the category is made into a tag. Click here to see a list of the interests that are made into tags.

Note: This list comprises the default interests that are included in an upgrade from version 1.0 to version 2.0.

Advocacy

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Advocacy" interest in Get Connected 2.0:

  • Attend Public Meeting
  • Community Forum
  • Email/Letter Writing Campaign
  • Host an Educational Session
  • Phone Bank
  • Speaker's Bureau
  • Write Elected Officials

Board Service

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Board Service" interest in Get Connected 2.0:

  • Serve on Board
  • Serve on Committee
  • Board Service
  • Committee Service

Clerical

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Clerical" interest in Get Connected 2.0: 

  • Clerical/Administrative
  • Grant Writing/Review
  • Organizing

Court Mandated

Needs categorized as "Court-Mandated Volunteer" in Get Connected 1.0 are assigned the "Court Mandated" interest in Get Connected 2.0.

Education

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Education" interest in Get Connected 2.0: 

  • Education
  • Mentoring
  • Reading/Literacy
  • STEM (science, technology, engineering, math)
  • Tutoring

Finance

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Finance" interest in Get Connected 2.0: 

  • Financial Coaching
  • Tax Preparation

Food Prep

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Food Prep" interest in Get Connected 2.0:

  • Food/Hunger Relief
  • Meal Preparation/Service

In Kind

Needs categorized as "In Kind" in Get Connected 1.0 are assigned the "In Kind" interest in Get Connected 2.0.

Legal

Needs categorized as "Legal" in Get Connected 1.0 are assigned the "Legal" interest in Get Connected 2.0.

Marketing

Needs categorized as "Marketing" in Get Connected 1.0 are assigned the "Marketing" interest in Get Connected 2.0.

Medical

Needs categorized as "Healthcare/Hospice" in Get Connected 1.0 are assigned the "Medical" interest in Get Connected 2.0.

Nonprofit Professional

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Nonprofit Professional" interest in Get Connected 2.0: 

  • Clerical
  • Contract
  • Development
  • Employment
  • Executive
  • Finance
  • Full-Time
  • Internship
  • Part-Time
  • Program
  • Seasonal
  • AmeriCorps

Physical Labor

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Physical Labor" interest in Get Connected 2.0: 

  • Cleaning
  • Landscaping/Gardening
  • Painting
  • Transportation

Skilled Labor

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Skilled Labor" interest in Get Connected 2.0: 

  • Construction
  • Maintenance

Social

Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Social" interest in Get Connected 2.0: 

  • Arts & Crafts
  • Bilingual/Spanish Speaking
  • Client Interaction
  • Event Planning
  • Fundraising
  • Special Events
  • Sports and Recreation

Tech

 Needs with the following Get Connected 1.0 categories are assigned the "Tech" interest in Get Connected 2.0:
